About Darren

About Darren

Darren began collecting coins as a child with Wheat Cents. He worked 5 years in Chicago for one of the largest coin companies in the world, Harlan J. Berk, Ltd, as a U.S. Numismatist and their Chief Coin Grader; his concentration being die varieties, doubled dies, RPM's and detecting counterfeits. His credentials include membership to the ANA, Chicago Coin Club, Evansville Coin Club and the Original Hobo Nickel Society.

In regards to his other talents, Darren moved from the Evansville area to Chicago in 1996 and formed what came to be known as the Gaza Strippers with Rick Sims of the Didjits and Looking-glass Theater fame. Adding heavier sounds through his bass playing, he gave the band a unique sound that set them apart from other bands of the late '90s rock revitalization movement. With 4 full length records, 2 EP's, and numerous compilations under his belt he has toured the U.S. and Canada numerous times along with 4 European tours. The band was featured in multiple MTV shows, such as Road Rules, an episode of Dawson's Creek, the rock documentary Goodnight Cleveland and the book We Never Learn. Darren was personally selected to be used in a commercial for the Experience Music Project (aka Jimi Hendrix Museum). Although no longer touring, he continues to write and record music and recently had a song featured in the movie Chop.
